Earlier this week, Rockstar Games introduced the BattlEye anti-cheat software to Grand Theft Auto V on PC. The impact was swift, with player numbers dropping significantly.
According to SteamDB, GTA V has lost around 40% of its player base in just a few hours, dropping from an average of 140,000 simultaneous users to 84,000. At the time of writing, the Steam version had just over 90,000 concurrent players.
The decline is largely due to mods no longer functioning properly with BattlEye’s inclusion. For example, the popular Kiddions menu, used for managing mods, is no longer usable.
